In the chapter " shame " the author discuss the theme " poverty ".  Poverty is often discussed in terms of - lack of food ,shelter or access to basic needs. But rarely do we explore the emotional toll it takes on individuals, particularly the shame that accompanies being poor. In 'Dick Gregory' in the story 'shame' he offers a deeply personal reflection on poverty, showing how it not affects one's material existence but also one's sense of self worth.
